The town of Buea lies on the southeastern slope of the mountain, and the port of Limbe (formerly Victoria) with its beautiful Beaches, lies at its southern foot. The side of the mountain facing the sea has a mean annual precipitation level of more than 400 inches (10,000 mm) and is one of the wettest places in the world.
The mountain’s rich volcanic soils support bananas, rubber, oil palms, tea, and cacao; valleys are used as pasture.
